Getting the Most Out of Your Policy

First, you need to understand that dental insurance is somewhat different than medical insurance. While medical insurance is meant to be used in the case that something goes wrong, dental insurance provides more coverage for services that are meant to prevent oral health issues from occurring in the first place. For example, regular checkups, cleanings, and X-rays are often completely covered. This is why making at least two trips to the dentist each year is a key way to maximize your benefits.

Your insurance plan won’t look exactly like the ones offered by different carriers. We can review your plan with you so that you understand the type of coverage you can expect to receive. Normally, preventive care receives 80 to 100 percent coverage, fillings and other minor procedures are typically in the 70 to 80 percent range, and complex treatments are typically covered at 50%. Most plans won’t pay for cosmetic treatments (though they might if they also carry a dental health benefit).
